Catalog Librarian/ Supervisor- Angleton

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Manages the day-to-day operations of the cataloging unit of the Technical Services department which includes full and part-time paraprofessional cataloging and processing staff. Works closely with the Technical Services management team under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director for Technical Services. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university; completion of at least one cataloging course. Desirable qualities include cataloging experience, experience or familiarity with library practices, experience with standard office software systems, familiarity with the Polaris integrated library system, strong organizational skills, good interpersonal skills, and some supervisory experience. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Collaborates with the Technical Services management team to set departmental goals, priorities and strategies; develops the cataloging unit’s annual budget request; Trains staff in department processes, original and copy cataloging, classification and subject analysis of print, non-print, and electronic materials using national cataloging standards for public libraries including RDA, Library of Congress subject headings, Dewey Decimal classification and OCLC bibliographic formats; Supervises use of the ILS cataloging module; Oversees the maintenance of the collection including mending and item decommissioning; Maintains and distributes cataloging supplies to the branches as requested; Interviews, trains, supervises , schedules and evaluates staff; Acts as liaison between library administration, branch staff and County departments; Prepares reports as needed; compiles, tabulates and analyzes statistics; Maintains an awareness of professional trends, methods and ethics; Attends and participates in professional activities, conferences and committees, Performs other duties as assigned.

HOURS:  40 hours a week (Monday through Friday); SALARY:  $46,416 annually, or as negotiated, based on experience.
