Bam! It’s BrazCon Time!

Pow! Zap! BAM! BrazCon Teen Comic Convention & Geek-fest, is about to power-up!  This free event for kids ages 10 - 18 is coming to Pearland on February 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Shadow Creek High School.  More than 65 sessions, workshops and crafting activities will be offered, all inspired by comics, manga, fiction and popular culture.  Whether you are a fan of Dr. Who, Star Wars, or Harry Potter, to name just a few, there is something for everyone at this family friendly event.

If you love gaming, Magic: The Gathering will be one of our featured games with cards provided by Wizards of the Coast; there will be plenty for anyone who wants to learn!  This year along with other card, board, and video games, you can register to participate in a Video Game Tournament featuring NFL-Madden, NBA 2K18, Pokken, and Super Smash Bros. Hurry! Registration ends on Feb. 1st for the tournament.

If you are interested in fiction writing or comic illustration, there will be 15 authors, as well as 7 comic book artists and publishers on hand to learn more.  Many of these authors and artists will be conducting sessions or speaking on panels.

We invite you to come dressed as your favorite character for cosplay!! Not sure what cosplay is though? Not only will there be sessions on creating your own cosplay outfits; there will also be a Cosplay & Costume Contest for kids 18 and under as well as for groups.  The Society for Creative Anachronism will be on hand to delve into the past with historical costuming ideas and tips, along with archery and swordplay demonstrations!

BrazCon participants can also choose to see a pop culture magic show with John O’Bryant, learn from Mark Shepherd about Star Wars Science, or create creatures inspired by Harry Potter!  Another great session will be hosted by Emmy-winner Mark Kistler who will be returning this year to conduct his amazing 3-D drawing workshops.

Anime aficionados will be able to view favorite and new anime films at BrazCon’s All-Day-Anime.  In this day-long come and go session, participants will learn about upcoming new releases in the world of anime!

New to BrazCon this year! Free transportation from various schools, made available to some areas in Brazoria County through the Olin Corporation and the Brazoria County Library System Foundation.  For information about different transportation centers, contact your local Brazoria County Library.

BrazCon will be held at Shadow Creek High School, 11850 Broadway (FM-518) in Pearland, on February 3, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Doors will open at 8:45 for registration, freebies and vendor shopping.  Sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m.  Food trucks will be available for breakfast and lunch.
