Registering for STEAR Now, Can Save Lives During and Emergency
Brazoria County – The Brazoria County Office of Emergency Management and Brazoria County Judge Matt Sebesta want to encourage individuals that need assistance during times of an emergency event to register with the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR). The STEAR program is a free registry that provides local planners and emergency responders with information about community members that may have special needs or concerns during an emergency.
“Registering NOW for STEAR can save lives,” said Judge Sebesta, Director of Brazoria County Emergency Management. “Residents should not wait until an emergency is happening to register. Folks need to plan ahead and register today to ensure responders have identified those who may need additional assistance during an emergency event.”
The STEAR program is designed to help emergency responders quickly identify people with disabilities or access and functional needs. Including those who have limited mobility, have communication barriers, require additional medical assistance during an emergency, need transportation assistance and require personal care assistance.
“If you need a ride for any reason, please register, “said Steve Rosa, Brazoria County Emergency Management Coordinator. “If you register, you are not obligated to use this service, let us be your backup plan if all else fails.”
DO NOT WAIT! Be prepared and register today online at https://stear.dps.texas.gov/ or by calling 2-1-1. Registration is voluntary, and all information provided is confidential. If you have an elderly family member, neighbor or friend, please assist them with registering for this service, it could save their life.
Registering with STEAR does not guarantee that you will receive a specific service during an emergency and should not be a replacement for an emergency plan. Brazoria County Office of Emergency Management recommends residents take steps to be self-sufficient until emergency personnel can reach them.
