This dynamic 12 hours, in-person course takes the attendee to the roadside with the
presenters to help in exploring the mysteries of the commercial truck industry and the crimes
associated with commercial equipment theft. The student will be exposed to various types of
commercial trailers and the features that make them easily identifiable.
After learning about the industry, the crimes involving commercial trailers and their unique
features, the student will examine the various confidential VIN locations of many manufactures
and how to identify the true VIN of a trailer which has had its public VIN swapped.
By the conclusion of the class, the student will know how to interdict trailers suspected of
having a VIN swap, how to conduct a complete roadside investigation, methods of determining
the trailer’s true identify, case law regarding VIN inspections and how to testify in court.
