DISASTER RESPONSE
Brazoria County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program (BCPHEP) plays a crucial role in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters of all kinds. The Program partners with cities, health care providers and other agencies to respond to disease outbreaks or biological attacks.
BCPHEP coordinates and exercises Response Plans with partner agencies across Brazoria County to dispense medications in the event of a disaster. The plans for dispensing calls for the use of the following plans:
- Open PODS – Points of Dispensing Sites that are open to the general public to drive through or walk through to be screened, registered, and receive Medical Countermeasures to combat a biological agent.
- Closed PODS – Various governments and businesses have written agreements to be provided a private supply of medications to dispense to their dedicated populations.
- Vaccine Dispensing : Certain agents require the distribution of vaccines. Plans are tested to coordinate vaccine delivery across Brazoria County.
- Agreements: Memorandum of understandings are prepared, maintained and renewed to codify the relationships between Brazoria County and partner agencies.
