2021 Second Quarter News
Brazoria County Commissioners' Court passed a resolution declaring the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. There have been 703 cases of documented child abuse and two fatalities.

Various organizations such as the Pearland Exchange Club and the Pearland Police Department partnered with the Brazoria County Alliance for Children to place displays in locations throughout Precinct 3.The Exchange's location is found between Casa Ole & Regions Bank, whilst the Police Dept. has theirs in front of their building on Cullen Blvd.

Precinct 3 continued to kick-off the second quarter of 2021 by attending the Alvin-Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce's State of the District Luncheon featuring Congressman Troy Nehls -CD22, as the keynote speaker.

The General Land Office completed a Harvey reconstruction home within Precinct 3. The home took 58 days from the beginning of demolition to the hand-off of the keys to the homeowners. Attendees included Mayor Cole of Pearland, representatives from Senator Taylor and Representative Thompson's offices and the builder, JWTC. Congratulations to Juan Gonzalez and family on the completion of their home!

Mosaic in Action and Homeland Preparedness Project stopped by the North Service Center to visit and share the successes accomplished through the previous year. Although both non-profits struggled for volunteers through a pandemic, they both exceeded the communities expectation.

Keep Pearland Beautiful held their annual Texas Clean-Up on April 10th, where multiple groups picked up trash/litter throughout the city. Community leaders led community members throughout the event.

In May, Commissioners' Court recognized Elder Abuse Awareness Month by where ActionS Inc of Brazoria County received the proclamation and National Police Week where the Sheriff's Office received the proclamation.

During the National Police Week, a partnership with Senator Larry Taylor, Representative Ed Thompson, Commissioner Stacy Adams, Justice of the Peace Roy Castillo and the Honorable Greg Hill to deliver meals to the Alvin Police Department & Pearland Police Department. Meals were supported and made possible through Central Texas BBQ and Grace Pizza & Shakes.

Heights Baptist Church hosted their Annual BBQ Competition where community leaders served as the panel of judges. Submissions included church members and leadership.
The City of Pearland hosted a tour of their various facilities which included:
- Coastal Prairie & Sports Complex (new rugby and cricket fields coming soon),
- Shadow Creek Ranch Library (slated to be completed in late October),
- Ivy District Park and
- Surface Water Treatment Plant.
Attendees included staff from the City of Pearland & Pearland Economic Development Corp., Mayor Cole and Councilmembers, and Brazoria County staff.

Brazoria County Library System (BCLS) was recognized in Commissioners Court for 80 years of exceptional library services provided to the residents of Brazoria County. Congratulations BCLS on your 80th Anniversary!
Carol Art-Bucek and Gary Bucek visited Commissioners’ Court to express their gratitude as they plan on retiring from the Pearland Chamber of Commerce at the end of June. Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for the years of service to our county!
In early June, the Alvin-Manvel Area Chamber of Commerce hosted Eliza Paul, Regional Engineer of TXDOT, spoke of efforts made to keep Texas highways safe, upcoming projects and the UTP.
Congressman Nehls conducted his Summer Congressional Youth Workshop which included 35 area high school students. Students were chosen to be a part of our one-day workshop, where they learned the role of lawmakers in our democracy. These students were split into four committees, where they drafted a bill and then were asked to debate it. Students were also joined by guest speakers, Texas State Representative Jacey Jetton and Brazoria County Commissioner Stacy Adams.
County Judge Matt Sebesta, Commissioner Stacy Adams, and Information Systems Director Russell Webb toured the computer server disaster recovery site "Fibertown" in preparation for hurricane season.
Commissioner Adams had the pleasure of joining the Alvin Independent School District's Book Bus to read to elementary age children. Books read were “The Giving Tree” and “Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons”. In addition, the kids learned a bit about county government.
