Juvenile Supervision Officer- Juvenile Probation

Summary of Duties

The Supervision Officer reports directly to the Shift Leader then to the Shift Supervisor, Supervisor, Facility Administrator, and ultimately to the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer.  The detention officer will directly supervise detention residents in their day to day programming with an emphasis on safety, security, and behavior control. 

Detailed Job Description

  1. Work a schedule that will involve working weekends, evenings or nights

  2. Supervise residents in program activities such as meals, showers, school, indoor and outdoor recreation and parental visitation

  3. Complete the intake and orientation process of juvenile offenders into the detention center

  4. Conduct frequent building and cell checks to ensure a safe working environment

  5. Conduct searches as required to control contraband

  6. Restrain violent youths as directed by the Shift Leader or other detention administrator 

  7. Participate in required fire drills as directed by the Shift Leader

  8. Perform housekeeping tasks as needed to maintain facility cleanliness 

  9. Maintain daily activity logs and reports

  10. Write detention discipline and or incident reports as required

  11. Keep the Shift Leader apprised of any safety or security concerns

  12. Job descriptions will primarily confine the officer to duties within the detention center; however, a Supervision Officer may be required to perform duties outside the normal job description such as transportation, community service or cleaning details.

     

    Qualification Requirements

  13. Required: At least 21 years of age

  14. Required: High school diploma or GED

  15. Preferred:  Bachelor’s degree within the Behavioral Sciences field (Criminology, Sociology, Psychology)  or at least two years of college in one of these fields

  16. Preferred: 1 year experience working in some capacity with juveniles whether incarcerated or in the mental health or educational fields

  17. Ability to perform in a mentally and physically demanding working environment

  18. Desire to work directly with troubled juveniles

  19. Capacity to effect positive change and be a superior role model

     

    DRUG/ALCOHOL POLICY 

  1. Required: Pass a drug screen following a conditional employment offer

     

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  1. Required: Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and have proof of liability coverage

  2. Required: Ability to be certified as a Juvenile Supervision Officer.
