In response to the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl, the City of Freeport Office of Emergency Management and the Brazoria County Long Term Recovery Committee will host a Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) for residents of the 77541 and 77542 zip codes. This includes the communities of Freeport, Jones Creek, Oyster Creek, Quintana, and Surfside, Texas. Residents affected by Hurricane Beryl may be eligible for disaster assistance under FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program.

Disaster Assistance Center Details:

• Dates: Friday, July 19, 2024, and Saturday, July 20, 2024
• Time: 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
• Location: Freeport Intermediate School, 1815 W. 4th Street, Freeport, Texas 77541
(Gymnasium located on the side of the school)

At the DAC, each individual or family will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with atrained interviewer to assess their needs and receive assistance. Services offered include:

• Assistance for residents who experienced property damage.
• Guidance on reporting damage using the Texas Division of Emergency Management’s
online Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT).
• Registration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
• Access to Crisis Clean Up and Disaster Unemployment services.
• Counseling and referrals to other resources that can aid in recovery.

Additionally, agencies will be available to assist those requiring long-term recovery support. If government assistance is unavailable or insufficient, further help or referrals to other agencies may be provided. Individuals or families seeking assistance must bring identification showing their address as proof of residence in the disaster-affected area. FEMA registration also requires an active email address and cell phone for verification purposes.

There is no charge for any disaster assistance provided at the DAC. Special thanks to Brazosport ISD for donating the space for this vital resource.
